Katie Olsen joined the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications in the fall of 2010, serving as an instructor of advertising.

Originally from Wichita, Kan., Katie is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she earned a Bachelors of Journalism. Following graduation, she worked in the Account Services Department at DATACORE Marketing, LLC, in Kansas City, where she specialized in account management and strategic planning. Katie served on a wide range of client accounts, including Michelin, H&R Block, and Bayer Environmental Sciences. She received her Masters in Business Administration from Rockhurst University with an emphasis in Marketing, and brings to the Miller School a background ranging from News Reporter for the Columbia Missourian to magazine-editing and event-planning experience in London.

She teaches Principles of Advertising, an introductory lecture class open to all majors on campus, as well as Advertising Writing & Strategy and Advertising Media Planning. Katie also serves as Faculty Advisor to the JMC Ad Club. She's currently finishing up coursework towards a Ph.D. in Student Affairs & Higher Education with a research focus on the use of social media in higher education.
