Dr. Katie Olsen joined the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications in the fall of 2010. She teaches advertising courses within the Strategic Communications Sequence and advises the school's collegiate American Advertising Federation (AAF) chapter.
Originally from Wichita, Kan., Katie is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she earned a Bachelors of Journalism. Following graduation, she worked in the Account Services Department at DATACORE Marketing, LLC, in Kansas City, where she specialized in account management and strategic planning. Katie served on a wide range of client accounts, including Michelin, H&R Block, and Bayer Environmental Sciences. She received her MBA from Rockhurst University in 2009, and brings to the Miller School a diverse background that includes magazine journalism, advertising and database marketing. Her passion for helping students with professional development has created many lasting relationships with area agencies, and serves as an advantage for students studying advertising and engaging with Ad Club. Katie completed her Ph.D. at Kansas State University, and her research focus examines gender in advertising's creative departments.
When she's not with students or studying advertising in historic Kedzie Hall, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, Craig, and their two boys, Connor and Crosby.
