Dr. Tefertiller joined the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications as an assistant professor in the Advertising Sequence in the Fall of 2017 after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. In addition to his Ph.D., Alec holds a masters degree in Mass Communication from the University of Houston and a bachelors of fine arts in filmmaking from Florida State University.
Prior to entering academia, Alec was a web, media production, and marketing professional working with small businesses and nonprofits. He brings 10+ years of experience helping organizations connect with clients and constituents using digital storytelling and web-based communication.
Alec’s teaching interests include the principles of advertising and advertising campaigns, as well as social media and new media technology. Regarding research, Alec is interested in social media advertising, with an emphasis on social capital and social influence in Facebook advertising. Alec has also researched new media and the impact of digital technology on traditional media, including binge-watching and cable cord-cutting.
When he’s not telling stories or studying new media, Alec enjoys spending time with his wife, Bethany, their daughter, McKenzie, and their dog and cat, Gus and Nacho.
