Position Description: News Intern

KMAN is the flagship station of the K-State Sports Network, broadcasts Manhattan High School sports and is the area affiliate for the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. KMAN covers stories in the area of Manhattan and Riley County, Wamego and Pottawatomie County, Fort Riley and Junction City. KMAN is looking for a news intern with an interest in telling stories through multiple media.

 MuttSchool Dog Training and Behavior Social Media Intern

Position Description:  The Social Media Intern is responsible for coordinating and executing MuttSchool’s social media strategy, working across key social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This role offers the intern an opportunity to use their marketing and communication skills to grow MuttSchool’s brand, turn customers into advocates, drive leads and sales and to improve customer retention. The successful candidate will work closely with key members of MuttSchool’s training staff and clients. This person will learn about social media, digital communications and marketing in a business environment. Please note: during work hours candidates will be in close proximity to dogs.  Duties: Social Media Community Management: a. Assist with the company social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube) b. Monitor and reply to comments from followers (under supervision from the owner) c. Ensure that company profiles are accurate and up-to date on the web (Google, Yelp, etc.) d. Post updates to MuttSchool’s Facebook account (under supervision from the owner) e. Build Facebook ‘likes’ and website traffic through social media and email marketing campaigns f. Work with MuttSchool staff to implement timely social media campaigns. Coordinating and Distributing Content: a. Schedule and coordinate a monthly brainstorming meeting with MuttSchool employees to establish social media and blog content ideas two months ahead b. Plan and maintain a monthly social media, marketing and blogging calendar c. Help coordinate a featured trainer program d. Create one piece of video content per month and post on You Tube e. Upload and manage company blog posts in WordPress (under supervision from the owner) f. Repurpose content from other sources for our own social media channels and understand how to adjust the content for each channel g. Assist in the general distribution of press releases and media alerts h. Create a photo library that we can use for marketing, web and social media.

Requirements:  a. Proven written communication skills b. Excellent verbal communications skills c. An interest in marketing, communications, social media or public relations d. Strong photography and video skills e. Working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+, Google Analytics, Wordpress, Buffer (or HootSuite) and the Adobe Creative Suite
