Graduate Degree Requirements - On Campus

30 graduate semester hours, distributed as follows:

RESEARCH TRACK

  • MC 765 Communication Theory
  • MC 780 Research Methods
  • MC 801 Advanced Qualitative Methods OR MC 802 Advanced Quantitative Methods
  • MC 850 Applied Research
  • Two 700-level level electives in MC or related department with advisor approval
  • MC 899 Thesis (6 hours) 
  • Graduate electives in the area of specialization to complete 30 semester hours

All candidates deliver a final oral defense of their thesis.

PROFESSIONAL TRACK

  • MC 765 Communication Theory
  • MC 780 Research Methods
  • MC 770 Mass Communication Practicum 
  • MC 850 Applied Research
  • Two 700-level level electives in MC or related department with advisor approval
  • MC 899 Report (2 hours)
  • Graduate electives in the area of specialization to complete 30 semester hours

All candidates deliver a final oral defense of their report.

  • Three 700–level electives in Mass Communications with adviser approval

All candidates deliver a final oral defense of their practicum project.
