Held on the east lawn at the beginning of each fall semester, Kedziepalooza promotes programs, activities and curriculum of the A.Q. Miller School.
Designed to welcome incoming freshmen, the event began in 2012. “We want to make them understand that we are a family at Kedzie, and that we value every student that walks through our door,” said Jean Folkerts, former interim director of the school.
Students meet to enjoy food, contests, prizes and to engage with the many student organizations available to them while at JMC.
Savanna Rattanavong, senior in print media, said she encourages new students to get involved as much as possible, as she has her hand in programs and organizations throughout the school.
“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get some experience,” Rattanavong said. “Join a staff of any kind. We have the Royal Purple Yearbook, the Collegian and now the Manhappenin’ Magazine.”
Other participating organizations include KSDB-FM, KKSU-TV, student chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists, Advertising Club, Public Relations Student Society of America and many more. The event is hosted by the JMC student ambassadors and student advisors Sarah Howe and Kylie Kinley.
